Who I Am and How Within Range Airsoft Began

Welcome to the first Within Range Airsoft blog.

This will be the first of many posts covering airsoft, the equipment we use, running a mobile target range, the events we attend and some of the work that happens behind the scenes.

Before getting into all of that, I thought the best place to start would be to introduce myself, explain my experience with airsoft and share why I decided to create Within Range Airsoft.

My name is Ben, and I am the owner and operator of Within Range Airsoft. Airsoft has been part of my life for more than a decade, long before the business existed.

Like many people, I originally became interested in airsoft because of the equipment, realism and competitive side of the sport. However, what kept me interested was the amount of skill involved. It is not simply about firing as quickly as possible. Accuracy, reaction time, consistency and remaining calm under pressure all make a difference.

Over the years, I have gained a lot of practical experience with airsoft rifles, equipment handling, maintenance and safety. I have also experienced the less enjoyable side of airsoft ownership, including unreliable equipment, unexpected faults and the constant process of finding kit that can withstand regular use.

That experience has been particularly important when developing Within Range Airsoft. The rifles and equipment used at the range need to be suitable for complete beginners, while also being enjoyable for people who already have experience with airsoft. They also need to cope with being used repeatedly throughout busy event days.

From Airsoft Hobby to Mobile Target Range

The idea for Within Range Airsoft came from attending festivals and events with my partner.

We regularly saw activities such as axe throwing attracting large crowds. People clearly enjoyed competitive attractions where they could test themselves, challenge their friends and compare scores.

I began to wonder why there were not more airsoft based activities offering a similar experience.

Traditional airsoft games are not practical at most festivals or public events. They require large playing areas, specialist sites and considerably more time than the average visitor has available. A controlled target range, however, could offer some of the same excitement in a format that was safe, accessible and suitable for an event environment.

That idea eventually became Within Range Airsoft.

The range uses electronic targets that provide immediate feedback when they are hit. Participants can test their accuracy, improve their score and compete against friends, family members or the event leaderboard.

You do not need any previous airsoft experience to take part. Every participant receives instructions and a safety briefing before using the range, and I am there throughout the experience to supervise and offer guidance.

Making Airsoft More Accessible

One of my main aims with Within Range Airsoft is to introduce airsoft to people who may never have considered visiting a traditional airsoft site.

At events, I meet people of all ages and backgrounds. Some are experienced airsoft players, while others have never held an airsoft rifle before. It is often the complete beginners who surprise themselves the most.

The target range removes many of the barriers that can make trying airsoft intimidating. Participants do not need their own equipment, specialist clothing or knowledge of the sport. They can simply receive the safety briefing, step up to the range and see how well they can shoot.

For some people, it is a quick competitive activity during a day out. For others, it becomes their first introduction to a new hobby.

What This Blog Will Cover

Future posts will cover more of the equipment and technology behind the range, advice for people interested in airsoft, stories from the events we attend and an honest look at what it takes to operate a mobile attraction.

I also want to discuss the problems as well as the successes. Running an outdoor event business involves unreliable weather, equipment failures, long journeys and plenty of lessons learned along the way.

This blog will be a place to share those experiences properly.

Thank you for reading the first Within Range Airsoft blog. I hope it gives you a better idea of who I am, where the business came from and what I am trying to achieve.
